Sigma Tree WBS tasks structure for Jira icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree is a powerful tool for visualizing and managing hierarchical work structures in Jira. Installation Please follow the steps below to install icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree to your Jira Data Center instance 1. Log into your instance of Jira as an admin. 2. Select the Settings drop down menu and select Manage apps . 3. Select Find new apps from the left side menu. 4. Once the screen loads, you can type Sigma Tree in the search bar to find the appropriate app version. 5. Select free trial to begin the trial or buy now to purchase a license for icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree . 6. Select accept and install in the modal that opens up to confirm the app installation. 7. icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree begins to download and you’ll be prompted to log into your MyAtlassian account. 8. Enter your credentials and select Generate license . 9. A license key will be generated, and select Apply license to get started with the app. If you're using an older version of UPM, you can copy and paste the license into your Jira instance. You’re now all set to start using the app.
Building tree structure Sigma Tree provides three ways to build your task hierarchy automatically from issue links, manually, and in bulk. Enabling the tree for the project To enable Tree View for your project, navigate to Project Settings → Tree View , click Enable Tree View , and save the setting. Build a tree from issue links For existing projects with a predefined work item hierarchy (for example, Epic → Story → Sub-tasks), you can generate your tree automaticaly. 1. Navigate to the icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree using Tree link in the Jira side panel. 2. Click three-dot menu button and select Build Tree from Links menu item. 3. A dialog will appear describing the process and asking you to select the issue relationships that should be used to build the hierarchy. 4. After selecting the link types, click Build Tree from Links to start the process. [!NOTE] Epic–Story and Parent–Child relationships usually provide the quickest results. If your project structure is more specialized, you can use any other link type available in your Jira instance. Build a tree manually For new projects or scenarios where automated generation isn’t suitable, you can create the hierarchy manually. Start by adding new work items. Select a work-item type in the icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree header, enter a summary, then press Enter or move focus away from the field. Once you have several items, you can arrange them into a hierarchy Drag and drop items to change their order. Drop an item onto another item to make it a child in the hierarchy. Move entire sections of the tree by dragging a parent item. Alternatively, use the Indent (I) and Outdent (O) buttons to adjust hierarchy levels. Use the Delete key or the Delete option in the right-click menu to remove a work item. Bulk issue creation You can also build your hierarchy using bulk creation. 1. Click three-dot menu button and select Bulk Create menu item. 2. In the Create Multiple Issues dialog, select the issue type you want to create and enter summaries, one per line.
Setting up the view icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree allows you to choose which fields are displayed in your hierarchy. 1. Click the Select columns button. 2. In the dialog that appears, select the fields you want to show in the view and keep available for quick access. In addition, you can use other view options available in three-dot menu Details option lets you display the details panel for the currently selected work item. If the Details option is turned off, the details panel will not be shown. Resolved Issues option controls whether work items with any Jira resolution (other than None ) are shown or hidden. Issue Key option shows or hides the issue key inside each work item’s summary in the tree.
Understanding budget fields icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree provides several fields designed to support project budget management Σ Original Estimate (subtree) - roll-up field that aggregates the original estimate for the particular work item and all of its child items. Σ Remaining Estimate (subtree) - roll-up field that aggregates the remaining estimate for the particular work item and all of its child items. Σ Time Spent (subtree) - roll-up field that aggregates the time spent on the particular work item and its child items. Σ Progress (subtree) - calculated implementation progress based on the values of Σ Time Spent (subtree) and Σ Remaining Estimate (subtree) . Budget Forecast (subtree) - projected budget usage based on Σ Time Spent (subtree) and Σ Remaining Estimate (subtree) . Budget Status (subtree) - current budget state derived from Σ Original Estimate (subtree) , Σ Time Spent (subtree) , and Σ Remaining Estimate (subtree) . [!NOTE] You can also create your own roll-up fields by combining Sigma Tree relationships ( Groups ) with automation or scripting tools such as ScriptRunner.
Supporting functionality Project Summary icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree lets you quickly review the overall project status by clicking the Show Project Summary button. Tree Filtering You can use the search field in the tree header to find relevant work items. icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree performs a text search across all displayed fields throughout the entire hierarchy. Right Click Menu You can right-click any work item to open a menu with quick actions such as assigning, deleting, or cloning the item. Issue Edit Sigma Tree allows you to edit issues directly, without navigating to other screens. Budget-related fields such as Original Estimate and Remaining Estimate can be edited directly in the tree. Other fields can be modified using the Issue Details panel. You can also hold Shift to select multiple work items and use either the right-click menu or three-dot menu to start a bulk edit. Excel export icon{name="custom SigmaTree"} Sigma Tree allows you to export the entire tree hierarchy, or just the filtered work items, to an Excel file. The action is available in the three-dot menu . Link Child Issues to Epics You can automatically link child issues to their epics using the dedicated option in the three-dot menu .
